*Liar’s Poker is the culmination of those heady, frenzied years—a behind-the-scenes look at a unique and turbulent time in American business. From the frat-boy camaraderie of the forty-first-floor trading room to the killer instinct that made ambitious young men gamble everything on a high-stakes game of bluffing and deception, here is.
*21 years after publication, Liar’s Poker feels both relevant and ancient. Relevant because it seems the Big Swinging Dicks of Wall Street are ever with us; ancient because of references to things like WATS lines and the lionizing of Salomon Brothers trader John Meriwether, whose Long-Term Capital Management would spectacularly implode in 1998, and Michael Milken, who apparently had not yet.
The Ethics of Liar’s Poker and King-of-the-Hill Rules Pre-Game: Players must buy-in with a minimum of $20 to be exchanged by the “Treasurer” who generally has approximately $300 in clean single dollar bills (no “ringer-bills” are allowed). They’re playing Liar’s Poker, a sort of poker played with money bills instead of cards. Liar’s poker is an American bar game that combines statistical reasoning with bluffing, and is played with the eight digits of the serial numbers on a U.S. The numbers are usually ranked with a zero counting as a ten, and a 1 being highest as ’ace’. Give each player a set of numbers to play with. This can be from the serial numbers on dollar bills, or by randomly generating numbers for each player. Each player needs eight digits to begin play. Decide who goes first and wait for him to announce a poker hand that he believes can be created by combining all the numbers from all players.

Liar’s Poker is a unique game of bluffing. It is a simple game, but its avenues to form coalitions and spy makes it both exciting and a social game. Despite the name, unlike typical poker games, no wagering is involved. The nature of the game makes it great for get-togethers, bars, and road trips.THE DEAL
The first dealer is chosen randomly, there after the deal passes to the left. Players get a certain number of cards depending on the number of players.
2 Players: 9 cards
3 Players: 7 cards
4 Players: 6 cards
5 Players: 5 cards
6 Players: 4 cards
7+ Players: 3 cards
The player who lost the deal previously gets one less card in the next round, however, everyone else retains their same number of cards. Foxwoods slot jackpots. So, each deal has one less card dealt than the one before it.THE PLAY
In the first round, the dealer starts. However, if in any other round, the player who lost the last deal begins. Each player, moving to the left, names either a poker hand or a challenge to the previous player. The poker hand must be either (in ascending order):
*High card/Single card
*A pair
*Two pairs
*Three of a Kind
*Straight
*Full House
*Four of a Kind
*Straight Flush
*Five of a card
*Six of a Kind
*etc
Deuces (twos) are wild cards.
When naming a hand, provide relevant details to the group. For example, “Four Kings,” or “5 to 10 of Hearts.” If announcing a straight, it is not necessary to name every card in between. Typical Poker Hand Rankingsapply.
The declaring of hands ends when one player directly challenges the previous person to name a higher ranking poker hand. At this point, all players lay their hands down on the table.
If, after examining all the cards on the table, the poker hand that the challenged player named is there, the challenger loses that deal. However, if the hand is not there, the challenged player loses the deal.
Note, the hand must be exact. For instance, if the declared hand was a pair of aces, and someone had a hand of three aces, that does not count.

The loser of the previous deal receives one less card in the next deal. Once a player has no more cards, they are out of the game! Players on their last card may choose their card. The dealer must fan out the deck and allow that player to blindly choose their card.
Liar’s poker is an American bar game that combines statistical reasoning with bluffing, and is played with the eight digits of the serial numbers on a U.S. dollar bill. The numbers are usually ranked with a zero counting as a ten, and a 1 being highest as ’ace’. Normally the game is played with a stack of random bills obtained from the cash register. The objective is to guess how often particular digits appear across all bills held by players, with guesses increasing in value or quantity until a player challenges the most recent guess.
Liar’s dice is a similar game played with dice, and Commune is a similar game played with cards.Gameplay
Each player takes a dollar bill and looks at its serial number, without letting any other players see. A player is chosen to start, and they make an opening bid on how many of a particular digit they believe appears across all serial numbers held by the group. For example, if the first player bids three 6s, he is predicting that there are at least three 6s among all the players’ banknotes, including his own.
The next player can bid a higher number at that level (three 7s), any number at a higher level (four 5s) or challenge. The game continues clockwise around the table until a particular bid attracts a challenge from every player other than the bidder.
When a challenge is made, each player reveals how many of the bid number they have on their note’s serial number. If the challenge was correct (and the number on the bills is lower than the challenged bid), the bidder loses a dollar to each of the other players. If the challenge was incorrect, the bidder wins a dollar from each of the other players.
Trading floor personnel of the kind to be found in Michael Lewis’s book in the 1980s often played a variant on the above whereby a player who is called by all the other players can raise his own bid, thereby doubling the bet. For example, if he is called by all the other players on five fours he can then bid, say, five fives, with the bet doubled to two dollars. Called again, he might then go to five sixes, with the bet increased to four dollars. In this way, a clever player might reach his intended target of, say, five aces and win, say, sixteen or thirty-two dollars from each of the remaining players instead of merely one dollar. For this reason, many finance professionals discounted Michael Lewis’s story of the ’million-dollars-no-tears’ bet allegedly proposed by CEO John Gutfreund on the grounds that there can be no single-stake bet in Liar’s Poker because one cannot know whether or not the bet will be escalated in this way.In popular cultureLiar’s Poker Rules Dollar Bills
